Anniversary

Today marks one year since I began regular posting on this blog. It also marks the 200th post, which is the sort of coincidence that makes me happy. So, some brief reflections.

#1

Thanks for making this site the #1 Google result for these terms:

  • 8086 opcode map
  • KenKen solver
  • Bloxorz solver

and for giving it a nice ranking for many others, including:

  • Mdef viewer
  • Neuromancer code wheel
  • iPhone shiny buttons
  • UIPickerView resize

Life on the Z-List

Although I’ve enjoyed steady traffic growth, the readership of this blog is definitely restricted to an elite group of particularly discerning Internet denizens. So: yay, you!

Over the past year I’d estimate that my traffic has grown by about 25x. That growth is from a base of near zero, but, still, it’s not nothing. It will be interesting to see what the next year brings.

If you’re thinking of starting a blog, and wondering if you can easily get traffic and/or money, here are my answers:

  • Traffic: some
  • Money: no

It is, nevertheless, a very rewarding pursuit.

Disappointments

My one real disappointment is the obscurity under which my port of Taipan! labors. I thought it was a neat hack, and a fun game. Oh well.

The Future

Moving forward, I plan to bring you more iPhone news, as well as the usual assorted musings. In Book Club, we are within measurable distance of the end of “Men Against Fire”, which I hope you’re enjoying as much as I am. After that, we’ll tackle Dale Carnegie’s “How To Win Friends and Influence People”, which I think will be a lot of fun.

I’ve also been toying with the idea of enabling comments. I’ve resisted the notion because they seem like a hassle. (And, really, isn’t there enough argument on the Internet?) If you’ve got an opinion one way or the other, please let me know.

Happy trails.
